Minnesota dental professionals who are concerend about the growing number of children who don't have access to dental care will be offering free dental care to low income children in need.
The "Give Kids a Smile" event, which is coordinated by the Minnesota Dental Association, will be held at community-based clinics and private practices at many locations throughout Minnesota on Feburary 5-6, 2010.
These clinics will treat low income children ranging in age from 3 to 18.
More than 2,500 dental professionals will participate in this event. Services will vary from preventative care (cleanings, sealants and flouride treatments) to restorative care, which includes fillings.
All patients must have appointments in advance and be accompanied by a parent or legal garden.
To set up an appointment, call United Way 211 (just dial 2-1-1) or call (800) 543-7709. Operators will have a list of participating dental offices and will be able to direct people to a location in their area. You can also check this list of participating Minnesota dentists. Parents will need to call the dentist office to schedule an appointment.
Preventative dental care is so important for people of all ages. If you don't have dental insurance, look for universities with dentristy progams or community colleges with dental assisting or dental hygiene programs. You may be able to get basic dental care for little or no cost based on your income. In Minnesota, you can check out these reduced-cost options for dental care.
